Nicaragua Colonial

Whether you wish to be greeted at the airport by one of our agents, or picked up at the Costa Rican border, with Welcome to Nicaragua you are in safe hands from the moment you arrive. On arrival at one of our many three-star hotels, you will be supplied with all the info you need for the duration of your stay, as well as details of the exciting adventures that lay ahead of you. And if your flight lands early, you can begin the adventure right away with a tour of our capital city, Managua!

After your relaxing morning enjoying the pool and the amenities of your hotel, you will take the shuttle service (or private transportation) to León. This city offers everything you would hope to find in a colonial city, and more! It’s filled with beautiful churches, art collections and streetscapes that photographers dream about. The colonial imprint left by European settlers is mixed with the unmistakable energy of Central America, making León an authentic and charming city. In the afternoon you will enjoy a city tour and explore the many museums, as well the famous Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, a prized World Heritage Site.

In this morning you will visit the Peñitas Beach, is the perfect opportunity for a day of relaxation under the sun enjoying the water. For nature lovers, at sunset we visit the Juan Venado Nature Reserve by boat, between the island and the coast grows a mangrove forest, which houses tons of birds. Furthermore, crocodiles live in the water as well as lots of crabs and other crustaceans. Here, (depending on the time of year), you might be lucky enough to see baby turtles hatching on the beautiful beach!

In this day you will take the shuttle service (or private transportation) to San Jorge, and, next, the ferry, a short distance on Lake Nicaragua, to Ometepe Island, a must-see destination in Nicaragua. Upon arrival you will enjoy the sunset at the lookout Jesus Maria, the best place to admire this beautiful volcanic island with an active volcano (Concepcion), an archaeological park, and a biological reserve (Maderas).

Ometepe never fails to impress, and there’s something for everyone located beneath these volcanic twin peaks. A unique swim in the Ojo de Agua (a natural swimming hole) is a must while you’re on the island. The presence of volcanic rock means the water contains a number of beneficial minerals, making it the perfect place for a healthy and relaxing swim.

After you return to the mainland at San Jorge, a shuttle will be waiting to take you to the colonial city of Granada. Imagine awe-inspiring colonial buildings and funky street art co-existing harmoniously. That’s Granada! Your tour of Granada in a horse drawn promises to delight, excite, and reveal why this city is so special.

In the morning get ready to visit the Apoyo Lagoon, an enchanting freshwater lagoon situated in the crater of a dormant volcano, encircled by shady trees, dense foliage,  and wild animals. The glistening deep-blue water is clear and cool, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing and refreshing swim. After your relaxing day, you will continue to the highlight of this trip. It’s not every day you get to visit an active volcano and watch the molten lava bubble. This national park consists of two volcanoes and five craters.
